Biggest Omerta's Facebook addict, Brando (Steve) has agreed to be interviewed for our website, TraBot News. Through the set of 10 questions, you can read all the things he still didn't mention via FB or Twitter. After last interview back in v3.0, with DG, which turned out to be a great success, considering he was able to tell us quite a lot about the game, new features and other stuff, it's rather interesting to interview CEO of Omerta, a non-developer, but someone who's working with devs closely. Please state your opinions under the article, in comments, but keep it civilized please.

Q

Are you satisfied with current progress of Lackeys? What still needs to be improved?
BrandoYes and no.

Lackeys as is now are not the finished product. They have been put together very expediently because DG was leaving. The software which they run on was never meant to carry the burden of so many concurrent processes so they misfire.

Lackeys II is at an advanced stage of completion and I am hoping to see it on the Dev server during the coming days. The issues, such as settings flexibility (does he go to jail or buy himself out etc?) and the timing problems should be fixed by the rewrite. No it is not ready yet. No I don't know when it will be. No I can not hurry it up. Fahr is working on it and has been doing so for several weeks.

Q

How's Bullet Lackey coming along? Is it being fixed and will it be unlocked anytime soon?
BrandoAlex thought he'd nailed this on Friday but had to withdraw it again. Better luck next time. Maybe today. Soon.

Q

What other Lackeys might we see in near future?
BrandoThere are unformed plans for a communications lackey who would replace the current SMS system and add some flexibility - things like FB messaging as well as being enabled to message over a variety of events, all with attendant settings.

The feature is not actually planned though - and to complicate matters the dev who works with comms - stuff in Omerta which interfaces with stuff outside of Omerta - has just asked for 3 months leave for personal reasons. Naturally being a sympathetic employer (and his friends) we have granted this.

We need one or two developers. We are talking to four people about filling this need.

We have considered all sorts of other lackeys but nothing has got beyond a pipe dream stage so I won't even share :-)

Q

About Reset-o-Meter; how far in developement stage is it and when might it be officially released?
BrandoWell nothing at all. We have a manpower crisis. It can be made to work manually though. We will use VOTD with some modifications, most probably.

Q

After Rob & Mia were removed, will we see some new bodyguards added to Omerta in new version?
BrandoThere are no immediate plans for BG changes of any kind.

Q

Most of game community will agree that Lackeys have contributed to very high Donation Codes prices at Obay. What do you think about this and do you plan to do something about it?
BrandoTough question. We can't simply interfere with prices (for example providing 'wellfare') and it is hard to know what else we could do. The easiest way to influence prices is probably to combat cheating (S&W scripts & poker abuse and the ending of captcha-free ranking should all contribute).

There's another problem here: Rob and Mia are taken out of the game but the measures taken to make R&M affordable are left in. That needs balancing. The only way to reduce prices is to taper inflation in the game.

But again - in order to achieve this we would need more devs than we have at the moment.

Q

At start of v3.2 on .dm, there were no objects such as Punto Banco and Numbers Game, but eventually, they were added to the game again. Why were they removed in the first place and how come they were re-installed a few days after version started?
BrandoWe were closing exploits.

Q

How's that 'anti-dupe' protection coming along (WWF)? Is it being used yet and has it been a success, or have people found a way around it?
BrandoYou'd have to ask game admin crew like Bramblerose that. I have been busy with the dev team for so long that I never even get a chance to log into IRC or the game itself these days. Once we have appointed new people that should all change.

If there was a get-round I would not tell you it. You know the script...

Q

What do you think of current Kill Algorythm? Do you think it might be adjusted in near future, at least for next version?
BrandoI hold a dream of being able to reduce it to a number of simple integers 'protective stuff', 'weapon', 'online friends' etc, but with too little dev power we run up against the same problem as previously stated.

However: the KA has not changed for a couple of versions. And nobody ever likes it. Don't let the nostalgists kid you - they hated it in 2.1 too!

Q

Considering we're using a new family system, how satisfied are you with DG's legacy and the way fams are handling leveling and unlocking?
BrandoIt is ropey and I don't have proper documentation, nor do I personally understand it very well. Same point. Devs needed.

Q

While poker was disabled, most of families will agree that their objects were working great. But after poker was fixed and unlocked, objects started to make less profits, especially on smaller versions of Omerta. Do you think something will be done about this in future versions?
BrandoYes - one of my tasks is to manage interfacing with social networks like Facebook and Twitter. These are seen as a future source of new members. We also hope to release smartphone and tablet versions of Omerta which should similarly lead to an increased number of online players.

Bottom line: Omerta LTD needs more developers! Let's see how the game will be managed once a few more devs step in and help the other developers with all the new features and fixing the older ones. Once again, all contributing comments are welcomed and thanks goes to Brando for agreeing to do this interview!
